Cala de San Pedro
One of the most famous coves in Cabo de Gata: fine sand, crystal-clear water, a ruined castle and a small green valley fed by its spring. No road: you get there on foot or by sea.
Cala de San Pedro: what you need to know

Why it’s so special
In the middle of a semi-desert landscape, Cala de San Pedro has a freshwater spring that has created a small valley with vegetable gardens and greenery. That made it inhabited for centuries, and today it’s famous for the small alternative community that has lived there for decades.
The water is very clear and the seabed, with seagrass meadows, is ideal for snorkelling. It’s a peaceful, free-spirited cove where naturism is also common.

San Pedro Castle
At one end of the cove stand the ruins of San Pedro Castle, an old coastal fortress built to watch for pirates and to protect the precious spring. From the sea you can clearly see its outline above the beach.
The building is in poor condition: admire it from outside and don’t climb the walls.
